Orlando, Florida – Afternoon storms could bring 1 to 3 inches of localized rain and 40 to 50 mph gusts Tuesday as the heat index reaches about 100.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, scattered to numerous storms will develop with the sea breeze and move inland during the afternoon. Frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall are the main hazards.
Rain chances reach 50% in Orlando and Kissimmee, 40% in Sanford, Melbourne and Titusville, 30% in Daytona Beach and 60% around Fort Pierce and Stuart. Highs are expected near 90 across much of east central Florida, including 90 in Orlando and 88 in Daytona Beach and Melbourne.
Beachgoers also face a moderate rip current risk along all Atlantic beaches of the Daytona, Space and Treasure coasts Tuesday. Strong rip currents are possible despite surf of only 1 to 2 feet. The Weather Service advises swimming near a lifeguard and never swimming alone.
Similar warm, stormy conditions continue Wednesday before the first front of fall arrives Thursday. Rain chances Thursday reach 50% in Orlando, 70% in Daytona Beach, Melbourne and Fort Pierce.
Northeast winds become breezy to windy behind the front, with marine and rip current impacts increasing Thursday and Friday. Temperatures change only modestly, but drier air follows the boundary.
Rain chances decrease Friday and Saturday, particularly around Orlando and Daytona Beach. High temperatures across east central Florida fall into the 83 89 degree range Friday and 83 87 Saturday.
