Miami, FL – Coastal communities across southeastern Florida face an increasing flooding threat through Tuesday as unusually high tides threaten low lying roads, sidewalks and waterfront neighborhoods. Major coastal flooding is possible beginning Monday, with hazardous marine conditions adding to the concerns.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect along the Atlantic coastline through Monday morning, Oct. 26, while a Coastal Flood Watch covers the possibility of major flooding Monday into Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Highest Flooding Risk During High Tides
Forecasters expect moderate coastal flooding through Monday morning, with conditions potentially worsening as elevated tides continue.
The greatest water levels are expected around high tide, particularly between 5 and 8 a.m. and again between 5 and 8 p.m. during the weekend.
Communities along the Atlantic coast, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale and areas extending north toward West Palm Beach, could experience flooding in vulnerable coastal locations.
Unusually high tides may push saltwater onto roads, sidewalks and other low lying areas.
Residents should avoid driving, walking or wading through flooded streets, especially where saltwater covers the roadway.
Dangerous Marine Conditions Continue
The Weather Service has also issued Small Craft Advisories for local waters, with northeast winds of 20 to 30 knots and seas reaching 6 to 11 feet.
Atlantic marine advisories extend through Sunday afternoon, while Gulf waters remain under advisory conditions through Monday evening.
A Gale Watch is in effect Sunday through Monday for portions of the Atlantic waters, where stronger winds could create especially hazardous boating conditions.
Inexperienced mariners and operators of smaller vessels are urged to avoid navigating during dangerous conditions.
Coastal residents should monitor updated forecasts as flooding potential increases early next week.
