MIAMI, FL – South Florida's Atlantic coastline faces another round of minor coastal flooding Thursday, November 5, as elevated water levels during high tide threaten low lying roads and waterfront areas from Miami through Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Coastal Flood Statement remains in effect through Thursday evening, with the highest water levels expected between 4 and 6 p.m. during the evening high tide cycle.
The statement covers vulnerable coastal locations along southeastern Florida's Atlantic shoreline, including areas in Miami Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.
Coastal Flooding Possible During Evening High Tide Forecasters warn that minor saltwater flooding could develop in low lying coastal neighborhoods approximately 1½ to two hours around high tide.
The National Weather Service identified two periods of elevated water levels Thursday:
Morning: 4 6 a.m. Evening: 4 6 p.m. Water may temporarily cover vulnerable coastal roads, sidewalks and other low lying waterfront areas.
Motorists traveling near the coastline during the evening commute should remain alert for standing saltwater, particularly in locations that frequently experience tidal flooding.
The National Weather Service urges residents not to drive or walk through saltwater flooding.
Sunshine and 85 Degree Temperatures Expected Despite the coastal flooding threat, Thursday's overall weather forecast calls for improving conditions across South Florida.
Cloud cover is expected to diminish as drier air moves into the region, bringing sunnier skies and generally light east northeast winds.
Forecast afternoon highs include 85 degrees in Miami, 84 in Fort Lauderdale, 84 in West Palm Beach and 85 in Naples.
The flooding risk is associated with elevated coastal water levels during high tide rather than widespread heavy rainfall.
What Coastal Residents Should Know Residents and visitors near flood prone waterfront locations should use caution during the evening high tide period, particularly when traveling along coastal streets or accessing low lying properties.
Conditions are expected to improve as water levels recede following high tide.
The Coastal Flood Statement remains in effect through Thursday evening. Residents should monitor National Weather Service updates for any changes to the coastal flooding threat.
