MIAMI, FL – South Florida faces a wet and potentially hazardous start to November, with a 90% chance of rain in Miami on Sunday, dangerous rip currents along Atlantic beaches and coastal flooding concerns continuing through Saturday evening.
The immediate weather concerns come as NOAA's longer range outlook favors wetter than normal conditions across Florida during the two weeks surrounding Thanksgiving, raising early questions about holiday travel conditions later in November.
Coastal Flooding and Dangerous Rip Currents Threaten Miami Beaches According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, for coastal Miami Dade and Broward counties.
Moderate coastal flooding could affect low lying lots, parks and roads, with isolated road closures possible.
A High Rip Current Risk also remains in effect through Sunday evening, creating dangerous swimming conditions along affected Atlantic beaches.
The Weather Service warns that rip currents can pull even experienced swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Beachgoers should remain near lifeguards and avoid entering dangerous surf.
Drivers should also avoid flooded coastal roads, particularly where water depth cannot be determined.
Miami Rain Chances Reach 90% Sunday and Monday The National Weather Service forecasts a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday, with a high near 84 degrees and east winds gusting to 24 mph.
Rain chances increase to 70% Saturday night before reaching 90% Sunday, when showers and thunderstorms are expected with a high near 82 degrees.
Sunday could also bring east wind gusts reaching 30 mph.
The unsettled pattern continues Sunday night and Monday, with precipitation chances remaining at 90% before gradually decreasing Tuesday.
Thanksgiving Holiday Travel: Rain or Snow Chances in Florida? NOAA's Climate Prediction Center outlooks issued Oct. 30 favor above normal temperatures across Florida during Nov. 5 9 and Nov. 7 13.
Precipitation probabilities shift during that period, with no clear preference around Miami during Nov. 5 9 and below normal precipitation favored during Nov. 7 13.
By Nov. 14 27, NOAA favors above normal precipitation across South Florida, including Miami, during a period covering Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 26.
The outlook does not predict a specific holiday storm, rainfall totals or travel disruptions. Snow is not indicated in the available guidance, and measurable snowfall in Miami is exceptionally rare.
For now, residents should focus on the active coastal hazards and heavy shower chances through Monday, while monitoring future forecasts for changes closer to Thanksgiving.
