MIAMI — Open enrollment for 2027 health insurance begins Sunday, Nov. 1, giving Florida residents an opportunity to compare Marketplace plans, review premiums and determine whether they qualify for financial assistance.
Florida uses the federal Health Insurance Marketplace at HealthCare.gov . Open enrollment runs from Nov. 1, 2026, through Jan. 15, 2027 . Residents who enroll or change plans by Dec. 15 can have coverage begin Jan. 1. Those enrolling between Dec. 16 and Jan. 15 generally receive coverage beginning Feb. 1.
The annual enrollment period gives Miami area residents and consumers statewide an opportunity to compare their existing health insurance with new 2027 options before automatically renewing coverage.
What Florida residents should check Consumers comparing 2027 health insurance plans should review monthly premiums, deductibles, co pays, out of pocket maximums, prescription drug coverage and whether preferred doctors and hospitals remain in network.
Florida residents should also update their expected household income and family information because those details can affect eligibility for premium tax credits and other Marketplace savings .
HealthCare.gov allows consumers to enter their ZIP code, household information and estimated income to preview available 2027 plans and estimated premiums. Prices displayed through the Marketplace can reflect financial assistance for which a household may qualify.
Health insurance prices can vary across Florida Where a consumer lives can have a significant effect on health insurance premiums.
HealthCare.gov says location is one of five factors insurers can use when setting Marketplace premiums, along with age, tobacco use, whether coverage includes dependents and the plan category selected.
That makes ZIP code specific comparison especially important in a large state such as Florida, where available plans and premiums can vary from Miami Dade and Broward counties to Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville and smaller communities.
Florida Office of Insurance Regulation data from the previous plan year illustrates the geographic differences. For example, the average unsubsidized Silver plan premium for a 28 year old earning $35,000 annually varied substantially by county, including $686 per month in Miami Dade County, $651 in Orange County and more than $1,000 in Monroe County before federal subsidies were applied. Those figures are for 2026 and should not be treated as 2027 prices, but they demonstrate why Florida consumers should compare plans based on their ZIP code.
Financial assistance can change what residents actually pay Marketplace premiums shown before financial assistance do not necessarily represent what an eligible household will ultimately pay.
Depending on expected household income, consumers may qualify for a premium tax credit that lowers their monthly insurance payment. Exact eligibility and prices are determined after completing a Marketplace application.
Residents should therefore compare both the full premium and the amount they would owe after any available savings.
Enrollment deadlines matter Florida residents who want coverage beginning Jan. 1, 2027 , should enroll or change plans by Dec. 15 .
Open enrollment continues through Jan. 15, 2027 . Consumers enrolling between Dec. 16 and Jan. 15 generally receive coverage beginning Feb. 1.
After Jan. 15, most consumers need to qualify for a Special Enrollment Period before they can enroll in or change a Marketplace health insurance plan. Qualifying events can include losing existing coverage, getting married, having a baby or certain changes in residence.
Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program can accept applications throughout the year for residents who qualify.
