Miami, FL – The National Hurricane Center issued an update on Thursday, September 17, 2026, regarding a low pressure area designated as AL98. The system, located approximately 350 miles east of Bermuda, is currently producing showers and thunderstorms with limited signs of organization.
According to the National Hurricane Center, environmental conditions may favor gradual development over the next 48 hours, with a potential for a tropical depression to form. The system is expected to move slowly before potentially turning southward over the subtropical Atlantic on Friday, September 18, 2026.
Forecasters note that conditions are expected to become less favorable for development by Sunday, September 20, 2026. The current assessment indicates a medium 40 percent chance of formation within the next 48 hours and through the next seven days.
