Melbourne, FL – Residents, beachgoers and boaters across east central Florida face dangerous coastal conditions through Friday, Oct. 30, as strong northeast winds, elevated ocean waves and unusually high tides increase the risks of coastal flooding, beach erosion and hazardous marine travel.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, multiple coastal and marine alerts remain in effect Tuesday, Oct. 27, including a Wind Advisory, Coastal Flood Warning, High Surf Advisory and Small Craft Advisory.
Wind Advisory Through Tuesday Evening
A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday across nearly all east central Florida counties, excluding Lake County.
North to northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected, with peak gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph.
Residents should secure outdoor decorations, tents, umbrellas and trash bins. High profile vehicles may experience difficult driving conditions.
Dangerous Surf and Coastal Flooding Continue
A Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect along the entire east central Florida coastline through 2 a.m. Friday.
Minor to moderate flooding is possible, especially during high tide.
A High Surf Advisory also remains in effect, with breaking waves reaching 7 to 11 feet and moderate to locally major beach erosion possible.
A high risk of dangerous rip currents continues at all area beaches.
The National Weather Service urges residents and visitors to avoid entering the ocean.
Boaters Face Hazardous Seas
Offshore conditions remain especially dangerous, with seas reaching 9 to 14 feet in warning areas and winds gusting up to 40 knots.
Small Craft Advisories continue through Friday for nearshore Volusia and Brevard waters and Gulf Stream waters.
Coastal wind gusts could remain between 25 and 35 mph Thursday and Friday, while rough surf gradually decreases.
Residents from Daytona Beach through Melbourne and the Treasure Coast should monitor updated warnings as Halloween weekend approaches.
