Melbourne, FL – A dangerous early morning flooding situation is unfolding across portions of Brevard County, along Florida's Space Coast, after 6 to 8 inches of rainfall prompted a Flash Flood Warning on Monday, November 2. Additional heavy rainfall could worsen conditions during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Flash Flood Warning was issued at approximately 4:45 a.m. EST and remains in effect until 7:45 a.m. Monday for portions of Brevard County.
Forecasters reported that between 6 and 8 inches of rain had already fallen across the affected area, with another 2 to 4 inches possible.
Melbourne and Palm Bay Among Areas Facing Flood Threat The warning area includes portions of Melbourne, Palm Bay and surrounding communities in southern Brevard County, within the greater Space Coast region east of Orlando.
Weather Service radar imagery showed localized rainfall estimates exceeding 8 inches, including approximately 8.4 inches in one area and 8.1 inches near Palm Bay.
The warning identifies a considerable flash flood damage threat, indicating potentially serious impacts from rapidly accumulating water.
Morning Travel Could Become Dangerous Drivers traveling through affected neighborhoods and along major roadways, including Interstate 95, should remain alert for flooded roads, reduced visibility and unexpected closures.
Floodwater can quickly cover low lying streets, intersections and drainage areas.
Motorists should never attempt to drive through flooded roadways. Water depth can be difficult to judge, especially before sunrise.
Residents in flood prone neighborhoods should monitor conditions closely and move to higher ground if flooding threatens their location.
Additional Heavy Rain Possible The potential for another 2 to 4 inches of rainfall raises concerns about worsening flooding in areas already saturated by the overnight downpours.
The warning was scheduled to remain active through 7:45 a.m. Monday, although officials could extend or update it depending on conditions.
Residents should monitor the latest National Weather Service alerts at weather.gov/mlb before traveling.
