JACKSONVILLE, FL – Residents and visitors along Jacksonville's coastline are facing potentially hazardous conditions Friday as an active Coastal Flood Warning threatens low lying roads, homes and businesses, while dangerous rip currents remain a concern through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect for coastal Duval County until 5 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. A separate High Rip Current Risk continues through Sunday evening, Nov. 1.
The alerts affect Jacksonville's coastal communities, where significant coastal flooding and dangerous ocean currents could create hazardous conditions for motorists, residents and beachgoers.
Road Closures and Property Flooding Possible
Forecasters warn that numerous roads may become closed as coastal water inundates low lying areas.
Homes, businesses and critical infrastructure in flood prone locations could also experience flooding, while shoreline erosion remains possible.
The National Weather Service urges residents to protect vulnerable property and avoid driving around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
Beach conditions will remain dangerous even after the Coastal Flood Warning expires.
Rip currents could sweep swimmers away from shore into deeper water, including experienced swimmers.
Officials recommend swimming near lifeguards and avoiding attempts to swim directly against a rip current.
Gusty Winds and Showers Continue
Friday's Jacksonville forecast calls for partly sunny skies and a high near 77 degrees, with northeast wind gusts reaching 23 mph.
Saturday will bring a 50% chance of showers, with breezy conditions and gusts potentially reaching 29 mph.
Sunday will remain breezy, with a 50% chance of showers and highs near 75 degrees.
Additional showers and possible thunderstorms are forecast Monday.
Although the High Surf Advisory has expired, the coastal flooding and rip current hazards remain active.
Residents should monitor updated National Weather Service alerts, avoid flooded roads and exercise extreme caution near the ocean throughout the weekend.
