Jacksonville, FL – A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for coastal Duval County through early Thursday, November 5, as elevated water levels threaten low lying roads, parks and waterfront properties. Dangerous rip currents are also expected along area beaches, creating hazards for swimmers despite mostly sunny skies and temperatures reaching the lower 80s.
According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, the Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 4 a.m. EST Thursday. A separate High Rip Current Risk is in effect through late Wednesday night, November 4.
Coastal Flooding Could Affect Roads and Waterfront Areas Forecasters warn that minor coastal flooding could affect lots, parks and roads near the shoreline, with isolated road closures possible.
Residents traveling through flood prone coastal neighborhoods should allow extra time and avoid driving around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
The advisory applies specifically to coastal Duval County, including vulnerable areas near Jacksonville's Atlantic coastline.
Although widespread major flooding is not indicated in the advisory, even minor coastal flooding can create problems along low lying roads and waterfront access points.
Dangerous Rip Currents Remain a Concern Beachgoers face another hazard as the National Weather Service warns of dangerous rip currents through late Wednesday night.
Rip currents can carry swimmers away from shore into deeper water, even when ocean conditions appear relatively calm.
Officials recommend swimming near lifeguards and avoiding attempts to swim directly against a rip current.
Anyone caught in a rip current should remain calm, float and swim parallel to the shoreline when possible.
Warm Weather Continues Despite Coastal Hazards Jacksonville's inland weather forecast remains relatively pleasant through the middle of the week.
Temperatures are expected to reach 80 degrees Tuesday, November 3, with mostly sunny skies and breezy conditions. East winds could gust as high as 23 mph.
Wednesday brings partly sunny skies and a high near 82 degrees, followed by another warm afternoon Thursday with temperatures near 83 degrees.
A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms develops Thursday afternoon, although precipitation chances remain relatively low at 20%.
The contrast between pleasant weather and dangerous coastal conditions makes it especially important for residents and visitors to monitor beach and waterfront advisories.
