Gainesville, FL – A 42 year old Gainesville man is facing criminal charges after allegedly assaulting a senior citizen and later barricading himself inside a vehicle, prompting Alachua County deputies to deploy a K9, break vehicle windows and use a Taser during his arrest.
According to the Alachua County Sheriff 's Office, deputies responded Wednesday evening, October 14, to a disturbance at a residence in the 4000 block of Southwest 98th Terrace.
Investigators allege that Bryhan Marshall grabbed an elderly victim and twisted the person's wrists, causing cuts without an apparent reason.
A witness corroborated the victim's account, and deputies reported observing injuries consistent with the allegations.
Marshall allegedly left the residence in the witness's vehicle before deputies arrived.
Around 10 p.m., the witness contacted authorities again, reporting that Marshall had returned and was leaving in a vehicle.
Deputies subsequently located him at a gas station in the 7300 block of Southwest Archer Road.
Authorities say Marshall refused commands to surrender and locked himself inside the vehicle.
Deputies attempted to use a Taser but were initially unsuccessful.
To prevent Marshall from fleeing or allegedly using the vehicle as a weapon, deputies surrounded the car with patrol vehicles.
Officers then approached with a shield and broke a passenger side window to gain access.
An agency issued K9 was deployed inside the vehicle but was unsuccessful in securing compliance.
Deputies broke another window, opened the driver's door and removed Marshall from the vehicle.
Authorities say he continued resisting before deputies successfully deployed a Taser and detained him.
Marshall was transported to a hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Alachua County Jail.
He faces charges of battery on a person 65 years or older and resisting without violence.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
