Gainesville, FL – An 18 year old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual battery at a Gainesville residence after investigators used license plate reader technology and other evidence to identify a suspect initially known only by a nickname.
According to the Alachua County Sheriff 's Office, Detective M. Adkins began investigating the reported September 2026 incident after a victim described an individual who drove a blue Tesla.
Investigators subsequently identified the suspect as Lakshya Yadav, 18, through investigative efforts that included real time intelligence and license plate reader technology.
Authorities said the victim and Yadav had developed a friendship through social media before the alleged incident.
During a conversation, Yadav allegedly made a sexual comment and expressed interest in visiting the victim's residence.
The victim reportedly told him he was not welcome to visit.
Despite that warning, investigators allege Yadav arrived at the residence during the early morning hours of Saturday, September 19.
The victim allowed him inside because of concerns that he appeared intoxicated and might attempt to drive in that condition.
Once inside, Yadav allegedly continued making unwanted sexual advances despite repeated requests to stop.
Investigators say the encounter escalated into forced sexual acts.
The victim also reported sustaining injuries during the incident. Detectives documented injuries they described as consistent with the victim's account.
Following additional investigative work, deputies contacted Yadav near his residence in southwest Gainesville on Wednesday, October 14.
He was arrested and charged with sexual battery.
The Sheriff's Office has not released additional information about the victim or the circumstances of the investigation.
Authorities said the case remains active and that further details are being withheld to preserve the integrity of the investigation.
The allegations against Yadav have not been proven in court, and he is presumed innocent unless convicted.
