Englewood, FL – Three alleged illegal gambling establishments in Sarasota County were shut down Tuesday after authorities simultaneously served search warrants at locations in the Englewood community, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff ’s Office.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, members of its Intelligence Unit, TAC Unit and Special Investigations Section worked with investigators from the Florida Gaming Control Commission during the targeted operation on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
Search warrants were served at three locations along North Indiana Avenue: 180 N. Indiana Ave., 624 N. Indiana Ave. and 10 N. Indiana Ave.
Authorities said investigators seized 164 illegal slot machines across the three establishments. Photos released by the Sheriff’s Office showed rows of gaming machines inside the locations, as well as law enforcement personnel examining equipment.
The operation focused on alleged illegal gambling activity in Englewood, a community in southern Sarasota County on Florida’s Gulf Coast.
“Illegal gambling operations have no place in our community,” Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman said in the agency’s announcement. “We will continue to pursue those who violate the law and hold them accountable.”
Hoffman added that the Sheriff’s Office remains focused on protecting the safety, quality of life and well being of people who live, work and visit Sarasota County.
