COLUMBIA, S.C. — November is beginning with a pronounced warming trend across central South Carolina, with Columbia expected to climb from the lower 70s Sunday into the upper 70s Monday before reaching 80 degrees or warmer Tuesday through Friday.
The National Weather Service forecast for Columbia calls for a high near 71 Sunday, Nov. 1, followed by 76 Monday. Temperatures then reach around 80 Tuesday and 81 Wednesday and Thursday before remaining near 80 Friday. Saturday stays mild with a high around 77.
80s Arrive Tuesday Sunday remains mostly cloudy, but skies begin improving Monday as clouds gradually decrease.
Tuesday turns mostly sunny with a high near 80, followed by partly sunny skies Wednesday and another temperature increase to around 81.
Overnight temperatures also trend warmer. Sunday and Monday nights fall to around 53 before the low rises to approximately 58 Tuesday night and 62 Wednesday night.
That gives Columbia a clear first week progression: lower 70s Sunday, mid 70s Monday, then an extended run around 80–81 degrees Tuesday through Friday.
Rain Chances Return Nov. 4–5 A modest weather change arrives Wednesday.
The Weather Service lists a 30% chance of rain after 1 p.m. Wednesday, followed by another 30% chance Wednesday night.
Thursday becomes the wetter period, with a 50% chance of rain and a high still near 81. Conditions improve quickly afterward, with partly cloudy skies Thursday night, mostly sunny weather Friday and mostly sunny conditions again Saturday.
The rain is therefore a secondary interruption rather than the main story.
November Warmth Remains the Bigger Signal The local forecast fits NOAA's broader November outlook, which generally favors above normal temperatures across much of the Southeast.
The Climate Prediction Center's separate Nov. 8–14 outlook also leans warm across much of the region, although that signal becomes weaker closer to the Southeast Atlantic coast. Columbia's inland location makes the broader mild pattern more relevant than it would be farther east along the immediate coast.
Precipitation carries a weaker extended signal, with much of the Southeast outside Florida closer to near normal precipitation during Nov. 8–14.
That means Columbia's most compelling early November story remains temperature: 80 Tuesday, 81 Wednesday and Thursday, 80 Friday and 77 Saturday.
The longer range outlook does not guarantee 80 degree weather through Nov. 14, but it does keep the overall pattern tilted mild as South Carolina moves deeper into November.
It remains too early for a specific Thanksgiving Day forecast on Nov. 26, but the warm start is worth watching as Thanksgiving and holiday travel season approach.
When do you expect Columbia to get its first real taste of winter?
