Wilmington, DE – Sunshine and temperatures in the middle 60s will give northern Delaware a mild start to the week. But a colder weather pattern is approaching, bringing rain, brisk conditions and temperatures near freezing by Friday night, Nov. 13.
The developing shift could produce a 32 degree difference between the warmest afternoon temperatures and the coldest nighttime readings later this week.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, Wilmington could reach 64 degrees Tuesday, Nov. 10, and Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, before colder air arrives.
Warm November Weather Before the Change
Residents across New Castle County can expect several comfortable afternoons before the weather turns colder.
Monday brings sunshine and highs near 61 degrees. Northwest winds could gust to 25 mph, making exposed areas feel breezy.
Tuesday looks even warmer, with sunshine and temperatures reaching approximately 64 degrees.
Veterans Day continues the pleasant stretch, with sunny skies and another high near 64 degrees.
These conditions offer a favorable opportunity for outdoor projects, leaf cleanup and holiday preparations before rain returns.
Rain Chances Increase Thursday
The pattern begins changing Thursday, Nov. 12.
Clouds will increase, and rain chances reach 50% after 1 p.m. Afternoon temperatures should remain near 58 degrees.
Thursday night brings a 60% chance of rain, with temperatures falling to approximately 37 degrees.
Friday looks noticeably colder, with highs near 50 degrees and a 40% chance of rain.
Drivers traveling Interstate 95, Interstate 495 and Route 13 should prepare for potentially wet pavement during periods of precipitation.
Temperatures Could Reach Freezing Friday Night
The most significant temperature change arrives Friday night into Saturday morning, Nov. 14.
Wilmington's forecast low reaches approximately 32 degrees, the freezing point.
That would represent a 32 degree difference from the 64 degree highs expected earlier in the week.
If temperatures reach freezing, sensitive plants could be vulnerable, and damp, untreated surfaces could develop isolated icy patches.
However, widespread freezing or icy road conditions are not currently established in the supplied forecast.
Could Delaware See Its First Snowflakes Before Thanksgiving?
Early season snow opportunities are beginning to appear across colder portions of northern New England.
NOAA's national weather discussion indicates that wet snow could mix with rain in higher elevations farther north.
For Wilmington, however, the official forecast continues to indicate rain rather than snow.
No snowfall accumulation or winter weather advisory is indicated for northern Delaware.
As Thanksgiving approaches on Nov. 26, residents should continue monitoring changing temperatures and precipitation patterns.
Wilmington Five Day Weather Outlook
