Newark, DE – Delaware State Police are investigating an early Sunday morning shooting in New Castle County after an unknown suspect allegedly followed a vehicle for several miles before opening fire, striking the victim's car multiple times.
According to Delaware State Police, the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, near Stanton Christiana Road and Ogletown Stanton Road in the Newark area.
Troopers Hear Gunshots During Patrol
State troopers were patrolling the area when they heard gunfire nearby.
Shortly afterward, officers observed a vehicle pull into a nearby business and responded to investigate.
Upon arrival, troopers discovered the vehicle had been struck by gunfire.
Despite the reported shooting, authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported.
Victim's Vehicle Allegedly Followed for Miles
A preliminary investigation revealed that an unidentified vehicle had allegedly followed the victim's car for several miles before an unknown suspect fired multiple shots at it.
Police have not disclosed how many rounds were fired, the extent of the vehicle's damage or whether the victim recognized the suspect.
Authorities also have not released a description of the suspect or the vehicle believed to be involved.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, including what may have prompted the alleged pursuit.
State Police Seek Information From Public
The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation.
Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the shooting to come forward.
