Georgetown, DE – A 13 year old from Millsboro faces multiple felony charges after police say a large kitchen knife was discovered in his backpack following an altercation at Sussex Central Middle School in Georgetown.
According to Delaware State Police , school staff notified the school resource officer Tuesday, Sept. 29, after finding the knife while searching the student’s backpack at the school on Patriots Way.
Investigators said the 13 year old and another student had allegedly been involved in a social media dispute before an altercation occurred at school. During that confrontation, police allege the 13 year old threatened to stab the other student and later touched him in a sexual manner.
No injuries were reported.
Police said the student was removed from school and released to a parent or guardian following the incident.
On Wednesday, Sept. 30, the 13 year old turned himself in at Delaware State Police Troop 4, according to authorities. He was charged with second degree unlawful sexual contact, possession of a weapon in a safe zone, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and terroristic threatening .
Police said the first three listed offenses are felony charges.
The teenager was arraigned in Family Court and released to a parent or guardian on a $1,700 unsecured bond .
Because the defendant is a juvenile, Delaware State Police did not identify him by name in the information provided.
The incident occurred at Sussex Central Middle School in Georgetown, Sussex County , roughly north of the Salisbury, Maryland, metro area.
All charges are allegations. The juvenile is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
