Hartford, CT – Thanksgiving travelers across Connecticut may be wondering whether early season snow could arrive before the holiday, although a long range outlook generally favors fair weather across the Northeast. Hartford, New Haven and Bridgeport could experience different conditions ahead of Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 26.
According to the Farmers' Almanac's Oct. 19 update, its Northeast forecast region favors cool, mostly fair conditions from Monday, Nov. 23, through Thanksgiving Day, with possible flurries in northern and higher elevation areas.
The publication describes the broader Northeast pattern as favorable for holiday travel. It does not specifically forecast snowfall for Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport or other Connecticut communities, nor does it provide accumulation totals or precise timing.
Connecticut's geography can influence early season snowfall. Hartford and inland communities generally experience colder late autumn nights than locations along Long Island Sound, where nearby water can moderate temperatures.
New Haven and Bridgeport may therefore experience rain during a weather system that produces snow farther inland or at higher elevations. The Litchfield Hills in northwestern Connecticut can also experience different conditions from the state's coastal cities.
November snowfall is historically possible in Connecticut, but that does not establish whether snow will occur during Thanksgiving week in 2026.
NOAA's November outlook favors above normal temperatures along portions of the East Coast and above normal precipitation across much of the region, with greater uncertainty over New England.
Those monthly probabilities do not determine conditions during a specific four day holiday period. A warmer than average November can still include freezing nights, while additional precipitation does not necessarily mean snow.
For Thanksgiving travelers, I 84 through Hartford and western Connecticut, I 91 between Hartford and New Haven, and I 95 along the coast are important routes to monitor if colder weather develops.
No specific highway disruptions have been established by the Almanac's projection.
Could Connecticut see snow before Thanksgiving 2026? Yes, particularly in inland and higher elevation communities. However, the available outlook does not confirm snowfall for Hartford, New Haven or Bridgeport.
Travelers should check updated National Weather Service forecasts closer to Thanksgiving for reliable snowfall timing, accumulation expectations and road conditions.
