BERLIN, CT – A sharp temperature drop could bring some of the coldest conditions of the season to central Connecticut this weekend, with overnight lows approaching freezing as a broader below normal temperature pattern develops across the Northeast Oct. 17 21.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures near Berlin are expected to reach 75 degrees Wednesday before falling to a high near 51 Saturday. Saturday night temperatures could drop to around 34 degrees, raising the possibility of frost in colder locations.
The shift follows several days of relatively mild October weather.
Wednesday's forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high near 75, followed by another mostly sunny day Thursday with temperatures reaching 65 degrees.
Showers are likely Thursday night, with a 60% chance of precipitation. Rain chances increase to 80% Friday, when temperatures could reach 66 degrees before colder air moves into the region.
By Saturday, mostly sunny but breezy conditions are expected, with afternoon temperatures struggling to reach the lower 50s.
NOAA's Climate Prediction Center favors below normal temperatures across Connecticut and much of the Northeast during Oct. 17 21. The outlook indicates an increased likelihood of colder than average conditions but does not specify exact daily temperatures throughout that period.
The center has also identified a slight risk of hazardous cold temperatures on Oct. 19 across portions of the Northeast, although the highlighted risk area does not clearly extend into central Connecticut.
While early season snow showers are possible farther north in parts of New England, the current National Weather Service forecast for Berlin does not include snow.
For central Connecticut, the more immediate concern is the potential for temperatures to approach freezing Saturday night, particularly in sheltered and colder inland locations.
Residents with sensitive outdoor plants should monitor updated forecasts for frost potential, while the broader outlook favors continued colder than normal conditions through Oct. 21.
