Whitewater, CO – A Mesa County man faces multiple felony charges after deputies say he allegedly threatened a woman with a gun, restrained her and prevented her from leaving during a weekend incident near the Whitewater Boat Ramp.
According to the Mesa County Sheriff ’s Office, deputies responded around 11:25 p.m. Saturday to a report of a felony menacing incident in Whitewater, southeast of Grand Junction. Authorities identified the suspect as Jacob McNeely, 18, of Whitewater.
Investigators allege McNeely found the woman and her friends at the boat ramp. When she attempted to leave and refused to speak with him, deputies said McNeely allegedly used his vehicle to block her path.
The sheriff’s office alleges McNeely then approached the woman’s vehicle on foot, displayed a gun and made threatening statements. Deputies said he allegedly reached through an opening in a window to unlock the vehicle’s doors.
When the woman attempted to run, authorities allege McNeely caught her and physically restrained her. She was later able to break free and return to her vehicle, where deputies said she used a ruse to convince McNeely to let her and the others leave before calling for help.
Investigators also allege McNeely had previously assaulted the woman at a shared residence and prevented her from leaving the home.
A warrant was issued Sunday, and McNeely was arrested the same day and taken to the Mesa County Detention Facility.
The sheriff’s office said he faces charges including felony menacing, false imprisonment, second degree kidnapping and second degree assault, along with misdemeanor harassment and domestic violence related allegations.
The charges are allegations, and McNeely is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Authorities said no further information was available Tuesday.
