Pueblo, CO – Another storm system could bring heavy precipitation, mountain snow and changing travel conditions to southern Colorado this weekend, with the greatest impacts currently expected Sunday night, November 1, into Monday morning, November 2.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread along the Continental Divide on Sunday before rain and snow spread across the region through Tuesday, November 3.
Forecasters are monitoring the potential for significant precipitation, particularly across southwestern Colorado's mountains, while emphasizing that snowfall amounts and snow levels remain uncertain.
Rain and Thunderstorms Begin Friday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible Friday, October 30, and Friday night across the southwestern mountains and San Luis Valley, extending into portions of Colorado's southeastern plains.
A more organized storm system is expected to develop later in the weekend, bringing increasing precipitation coverage.
Heaviest Precipitation Expected Sunday Night
The Weather Service identifies Sunday night into Monday morning as the most likely period for the heaviest precipitation, especially across the southwestern mountains.
The agency's excessive rainfall outlook also highlights portions of southwestern Colorado for a potential flash flooding concern Sunday into early Monday.
However, the forecast does not establish that flooding will occur or that every community will experience heavy rainfall.
Mountain Snow Could Reach Lower Elevations
Rain is expected to change to snow at higher elevations as snow levels lower Sunday into Monday.
Forecasters say snow could spread into mountain valleys and potentially portions of the plains Monday night.
Travelers heading into mountainous areas should prepare for changing weather and monitor road conditions before departure.
Forecast Uncertainty Remains
Although confidence is increasing in the potential for meaningful precipitation, the National Weather Service says snowfall totals and exact snow levels are still uncertain.
Residents across southern Colorado should continue checking updated forecasts as the storm approaches.
