Pueblo, CO – A round of winter weather is expected to bring significant mountain snowfall to parts of Colorado Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with accumulations potentially reaching 12 inches and hazardous travel conditions possible along portions of Interstate 25.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, Colorado's central mountains could receive between 6 and 12 inches of snow beginning Wednesday night, Nov. 4, before precipitation gradually tapers off Thursday morning.
Forecasters also indicate a 40% to 60% chance of snow developing along the Interstate 25 corridor in northern El Paso County between 10 p.m. Wednesday and midnight.
Snow in that area could produce reduced visibility and accumulating slush, potentially affecting drivers traveling north of Colorado Springs.
Motorists should remain alert for rapidly changing road conditions, particularly at higher elevations and locations where temperatures approach freezing.
While the mountains face accumulating snowfall, lower elevations across southern Colorado will experience a different weather pattern Thursday.
The National Weather Service forecasts afternoon temperatures near 59 degrees across the plains, with overnight lows between 36 and 38 degrees.
Precipitation chances across the plains are forecast near 76%, although temperatures should remain considerably warmer than those in the mountains.
Colorado's valleys will see afternoon highs between 50 and 53 degrees, with overnight temperatures dropping to between 23 and 25 degrees.
Mountain communities will experience the coldest daytime conditions, with highs ranging from 39 to 45 degrees and overnight lows between 20 and 23 degrees.
Partly cloudy skies are expected across much of the region between precipitation periods.
The combination of mountain snowfall, freezing overnight temperatures and potential slushy roads could create challenging travel conditions through Thursday morning.
Residents planning trips through mountain passes or the northern El Paso County stretch of Interstate 25 should check updated forecasts and road conditions before departing.
Snowfall amounts will vary significantly by elevation and location, with the greatest accumulations concentrated in the central mountains.
