Pueblo, CO – Colorado residents could face a significant weather change this week as a large Pacific storm system approaches the western United States, potentially bringing colder temperatures, mountain precipitation and hazardous driving conditions by midweek. Forecasters warn that the storm's exact track remains uncertain, leaving questions about how much of southern Colorado could be affected.
According to the National Weather Service NWS in Pueblo , the developing storm contains abundant tropical moisture and is expected to bring widespread precipitation to portions of the western United States during the coming week.
However, forecast models continue to disagree on how far east the system will travel and how long it could influence Colorado's weather.
One scenario would send the storm quickly northeast, concentrating precipitation along the Continental Divide while leaving lower elevations with fewer impacts.
Another scenario could allow the system to move slowly eastward, bringing multiple rounds of precipitation to a much larger portion of southern Colorado by midweek.
Colder temperatures are expected to arrive Tuesday, October 13 , regardless of which storm track develops.
Mountain communities along the Continental Divide are more likely to receive substantial precipitation, although specific snowfall totals and elevations have not been established.
The NWS also advises residents to prepare for the possibility of winter driving conditions in mountainous areas by midweek.
Across portions of the southeastern Colorado plains, frost or freezing temperatures could develop later in the week as colder air settles into the region.
These conditions could affect sensitive vegetation, outdoor plants and travel plans, particularly where temperatures approach freezing.
Forecasters emphasize that considerable uncertainty remains regarding the storm's timing, intensity and overall precipitation coverage.
Residents traveling through Colorado's mountains should monitor changing forecasts and prepare for possible winter weather.
