Larimer County, CO – Applications are open for a hands on emergency services program this fall that will give Larimer County residents a closer look at wildfire response, search and rescue, emergency medicine and other public safety operations.
According to the Larimer County Sheriff ’s Office, its 2026 Emergency Services Exploration Series is designed for county residents, students and business owners interested in learning how local emergency teams operate.
The program will take place across two weekends: Oct. 17 18 and Nov. 14 15. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Emergency Services building.
Participants are asked to attend all four classes, barring emergencies. Each session will feature different topics, equipment and demonstrations presented by sheriff’s office personnel and local volunteers who perform emergency response work throughout Larimer County.
The sheriff’s office said attendees will have opportunities to participate in scenarios, examine emergency vehicles and equipment and speak directly with professionals working in the field.
Topics scheduled for the series include wildland firefighting, fire mitigation, search and rescue, dive rescue, backcountry ski rescue, unmanned aerial systems and field medical care.
Officials emphasized that the exploration series is not a certification program. Instead, it is intended to provide participants with a firsthand look at the responsibilities, tools and challenges involved in emergency services.
Space is limited, and applicants are expected to be notified in early October about whether they have been accepted.
The program costs $20. The sheriff’s office said the fee will benefit local volunteer search and rescue organizations. Accepted applicants may pay by cash, credit card or check.
