Greeley, CO – A 38 year old driver was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving after allegedly ignoring deputies' instructions and heading toward an ambulance and power pole while emergency crews were working along a roadway in Weld County on Wednesday night, October 21.
According to the Weld County Sheriff 's Office, deputies were responding to a call for service shortly before 9:30 p.m. near North 21st Avenue and Northwest C Street when the incident unfolded.
Authorities said a driver stopped his vehicle in the roadway and was instructed to maneuver around emergency vehicles using the road's shoulder.
Instead, the driver allegedly continued directly toward an ambulance with its emergency lights activated and a nearby power pole.
Deputies reported that the vehicle would not have fit through the path the driver was attempting to take, potentially placing first responders working in the roadway in danger.
The driver was later identified as 38 year old Bayron Vicente Vicente.
Deputies contacted Vicente Vicente following the incident and suspected he was impaired, prompting a driving under the influence investigation.
Investigators subsequently established probable cause to arrest him.
Vicente Vicente was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, careless driving and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver's license.
The sheriff's office emphasized the potential danger to emergency personnel working along the roadway when drivers fail to follow instructions around active response scenes.
The department's public statement did not report a collision, injuries or damage involving the ambulance or power pole.
Authorities also did not disclose the circumstances of the original emergency call or provide additional information about the driver's suspected impairment.
The incident serves as a reminder that drivers approaching emergency vehicles should exercise caution, follow lawful directions and provide adequate space for first responders.
All allegations remain subject to the judicial process. Vicente Vicente is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
