Greeley, CO – A 25 year old man died early Sunday morning, October 18, while in custody at the Weld County Jail in northern Colorado, prompting an investigation by a regional critical incident response team.
According to a press release distributed by the Town of Windsor Police Department on behalf of the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team CIRT , Weld County Sheriff 's Office deputies were attending to the inmate at approximately 1:55 a.m. after he appeared to experience a medical emergency.
Deputies immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation CPR and requested assistance from medical staff and paramedics.
Despite those emergency efforts, the inmate was pronounced dead.
Investigation Underway Following Jail Death The 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team responded to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
Authorities have not disclosed the nature of the apparent medical emergency or identified a specific cause of death.
Officials also have not indicated whether the inmate had any known medical conditions before the incident.
The investigation remains active, and authorities said additional information will not be released until the investigation concludes.
Inmate's Identity Not Yet Released The Weld County Coroner's Office is expected to release the man's identity after his next of kin has been notified.
Authorities have not provided a timeline for when that information will become available.
Commander Janet Aguirre of the Erie Police Department is serving as the lead investigator.
Public information officer Michaela Mobley of the Windsor Police Department is handling media inquiries on behalf of the response team.
The death occurred at the Weld County Jail in Greeley, part of northern Colorado's Front Range region northeast of the Denver metropolitan area.
As of Sunday morning, investigators had not announced a cause of death or released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the emergency.
The investigation is ongoing.
