Grand Junction, CO – A Pacific storm system is bringing several days of unsettled weather to western Colorado, with Grand Junction and surrounding Mesa County facing a 90% chance of rain Thursday, October 22. Showers and possible thunderstorms will continue through the end of the workweek before cooler temperatures and additional rain chances carry into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, showers are expected to increase Wednesday afternoon, with precipitation becoming widespread overnight and continuing Thursday. The latest forecast calls for a 70% chance of precipitation Wednesday, increasing to 80% Wednesday night and 90% Thursday.
Pacific Storm Brings Widespread Rainfall Threat A strengthening upper level trough moving into the western United States is drawing additional moisture into the region, supporting widespread showers and thunderstorms across portions of the Southwest and Four Corners.
The Weather Prediction Center has highlighted an increasing flash flood threat across portions of the Four Corners region Thursday, although the highest risk areas should not be assumed to include every community in western Colorado.
For Grand Junction, the immediate concern is the high probability of rainfall, with showers and thunderstorms possible during several forecast periods.
Thursday could also bring gusty winds, with southeast winds of 10 15 mph and gusts reaching 25 mph. Thursday evening becomes breezier, with gusts potentially reaching 30 mph.

Sunday 10/25: Partly sunny skies are expected, with a high near 60 degrees. A slight chance of showers develops, with thunderstorms possible during the afternoon. Sunday night becomes partly cloudy, with temperatures falling near 42 degrees.
Longer Range Outlook Favors Additional Moisture NOAA's Climate Prediction Center outlook for October 28 through November 3 favors above normal precipitation across western Colorado.
The temperature outlook places much of western Colorado near the boundary between near normal and above normal temperature probabilities, meaning a significant long term temperature departure is not clearly established.
The precipitation outlook does not guarantee daily rainfall or indicate that the current storm system will persist throughout the entire period.
What Western Colorado Residents Should Know Residents of Grand Junction, Fruita, Clifton and surrounding Mesa County communities should prepare for changing weather conditions through the weekend.
Drivers should remain alert for wet pavement, reduced visibility during heavier showers and changing conditions on mountain routes.
Travelers heading into higher elevations should monitor updated National Weather Service forecasts because conditions can differ substantially from those in the Grand Valley.
The most immediate concern remains Thursday's 90% precipitation probability, followed by additional chances for showers during the weekend.
