Grand Junction, CO – Residents across Western Colorado can expect increasing cloud cover and isolated rain showers Sunday, October 18, as the first wave of moisture moves into the region, bringing another day of cooler than normal temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, moisture arriving Sunday will primarily produce midlevel and high clouds. However, some isolated showers are expected to reach the ground, particularly across the southern mountains during the day and overnight.
Showers Develop Across Southern Colorado Mountains The forecast indicates that the greatest opportunity for precipitation will be across higher terrain in southern portions of the region.
Communities near Telluride, Durango, Cortez and surrounding mountain areas could experience passing showers as moisture continues moving into Western Colorado.
Most locations will see increasing cloudiness, although precipitation is not expected to be widespread.
Residents traveling through mountainous areas should remain prepared for changing weather conditions, particularly during the afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service has not indicated widespread heavy rainfall or severe thunderstorms in its latest update.
Temperatures Remain Below Seasonal Norms Afternoon temperatures across Western Colorado will remain near or below typical mid October levels.
Grand Junction is forecast to reach approximately 66 degrees Sunday, while Montrose could see a high near 64 degrees.
Farther north, Rifle is expected to reach 65 degrees, with Glenwood Springs near 64 degrees and Aspen around 67 degrees.
Temperatures will be cooler in several southern mountain communities, including Telluride at approximately 53 degrees, Durango near 61 degrees and Cortez around 61 degrees.
The combination of increasing cloud cover and cooler conditions could make outdoor activities feel noticeably different from warmer fall afternoons.
Residents planning mountain travel, hiking or other outdoor activities should monitor local forecasts as isolated showers develop through Sunday night.
