DENVER, CO — Denver is heading toward a dramatic turnaround in October weather, with sunshine and temperatures in the 70s replacing a chilly, rainy stretch that brought daytime highs struggling to reach 50 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service in Denver Boulder, the city should experience several consecutive days of sunny weather beginning Saturday, Oct. 17, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the mid 70s by Tuesday.
The change follows an unsettled midweek period featuring widespread rain, chilly temperatures and gusty northerly winds.
Wednesday's forecast calls for a high near 49 degrees with a 100% chance of precipitation, while Thursday remains cool at approximately 52 degrees. Winds Thursday could gust as high as 36 mph before conditions improve.
By Saturday, Denver is expected to reach 73 degrees, a 24 degree increase from Wednesday's projected high.
Sunshine and 70s Take Over The weekend marks the beginning of a sustained stretch of mild afternoons across Denver.
Saturday should bring sunny skies and temperatures near 73 degrees, followed by partly cloudy conditions overnight. Sunday continues the pleasant pattern, with mostly sunny skies and another afternoon high near 73 degrees.
The warmer weather offers a substantial change from the cold, damp conditions earlier in the week, particularly for residents planning outdoor activities.
Despite the mild afternoons, overnight temperatures will remain considerably cooler. Saturday night's low is expected to fall into the mid 40s, while Sunday night could dip into the lower 40s.
Warming Continues Into Tuesday The National Weather Service expects temperatures to climb slightly higher as the new workweek begins.
Monday should remain sunny, with a high near 74 degrees. Mostly clear skies follow overnight before temperatures rise again Tuesday.
By Tuesday, Oct. 20, Denver could reach approximately 76 degrees, making it the warmest day in the supplied five day outlook.
That would represent a 27 degree increase from Wednesday's forecast high.
Unlike the rain and wind expected earlier in the week, the Saturday through Tuesday outlook contains no precipitation chances for Denver.
The forecast does not establish conditions for Wednesday, Oct. 21, and temperatures may vary outside the Denver forecast area, particularly at higher elevations.
