DENVER, CO – Drivers across the Denver metropolitan area face potentially hazardous travel conditions Friday morning, Oct. 30, as dense fog threatens to reduce visibility below one quarter mile. The advisory comes during the morning commute, when reduced visibility could make navigating highways and local roads more difficult.
According to the National Weather Service in Denver, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect from 3 a.m. until 10 a.m. MDT Friday for Denver, Boulder and several surrounding communities along Colorado's Front Range.
Dense Fog Threatens Friday Morning Commute
The advisory covers Denver, Boulder, Littleton, Brighton, Golden, Longmont, Lakewood, Arvada, Aurora, Parker and portions of Jefferson, Broomfield, Douglas, Adams and Arapahoe counties.
Forecasters warn that visibility could fall below one quarter mile in areas experiencing the thickest fog.
These conditions may make it difficult for motorists to see approaching vehicles, intersections and roadway hazards.
Drivers traveling Interstate 25, Interstate 70, Interstate 76, U.S. 36 and other major routes across the Denver metro should remain alert for sudden visibility changes.
When Will Denver's Fog Clear?
The National Weather Service expects areas of dense fog before 10 a.m. Friday, followed by improving conditions.
Skies should become mostly sunny later in the day, with afternoon temperatures reaching approximately 65 degrees.
Friday night's forecast calls for partly cloudy skies and temperatures dropping to around 43 degrees.
Safety Recommendations for Drivers
The National Weather Service recommends slowing down, using headlights and leaving additional distance between vehicles when traveling through dense fog.
Motorists should avoid using high beams because reflected light can make visibility worse.
Travelers heading to Denver International Airport should also check transportation conditions before departure.
Weekend Weather Outlook
Saturday brings decreasing clouds and a high near 63 degrees, followed by partly cloudy skies Saturday night.
Sunday should remain mostly cloudy, with temperatures reaching approximately 64 degrees.
Rain chances return Monday, when showers become increasingly likely during the afternoon.
Residents should monitor updated National Weather Service forecasts as conditions change.
