San Miguel, CA – Authorities have released new information in the investigation of a deadly shooting in San Miguel, identifying the 60 year old woman killed and releasing a photo of the man accused in the case.
According to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff ’s Office, the victim has been identified as Reyna Espinosa, 60, of San Miguel . Authorities said her next of kin have been notified.
The homicide occurred Monday, Sept. 28, in San Miguel. Deputies previously said they responded to a report of shots fired in the 500 block of River Road and found a woman inside a residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim did not survive.
The sheriff’s office previously identified the suspect as Jose Sevilla Ruiz, 66, of San Miguel . Investigators allege Ruiz fled the area before deputies arrived following what authorities described as a domestic disturbance and verbal argument.
Ruiz was later located Tuesday morning in Wasco, in Kern County, and taken into custody without incident, according to the sheriff’s office. Authorities said the arrest involved members of the department’s Special Operations Unit, with assistance from the Wasco Police Department and California Highway Patrol.
In the latest update, the sheriff’s office also released a photograph of Ruiz as the investigation continues.
Investigators have described the shooting as an isolated incident and previously said there was no ongoing threat to the general public. No additional suspects were reported as outstanding.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains active and no further information was available in its latest update.
The allegations against Ruiz have not been proven in court.
