San Francisco is heading into a dramatic October temperature swing, with afternoon highs reaching the mid 80s Friday before dropping into the lower 60s early next week, according to the National Weather Service.
The shift will bring a noticeably different feel to the city after several days of sunshine and warm afternoons, with temperatures falling 23 degrees between Friday and Monday.
According to the National Weather Service's San Francisco Bay Area office, Friday will bring sunshine and a high near 84 degrees in San Francisco, following an expected high of 81 degrees Thursday.
The warmth will begin easing Saturday, although temperatures are still expected to reach the upper 70s before a more substantial cooldown arrives Sunday.
Weekend Warmth Gives Way to Cooler Conditions Saturday will remain sunny, with a high near 77 degrees in San Francisco, providing another warm afternoon before the temperature trend changes.
By Sunday, temperatures are expected to fall to approximately 64 degrees, a 13 degree drop from Saturday's projected high.
The cooling continues Monday, when mostly sunny skies accompany a high near 61 degrees.
That represents a significant change from Friday's mid 80s warmth, returning San Francisco to considerably cooler daytime conditions.
Overnight temperatures will also gradually decline, falling from the upper 50s Friday and Saturday nights into the lower 50s by Monday night.
Rain Chance Appears Tuesday The otherwise dry outlook includes a slight chance of rain beginning Monday night, with another slight chance Tuesday.
However, the National Weather Service forecast does not indicate widespread or significant rainfall for San Francisco during the five day period.
Tuesday is expected to remain mostly sunny despite the precipitation possibility, with temperatures recovering slightly into the lower 60s.
The supplied forecast applies specifically to San Francisco. Conditions elsewhere around the Bay Area may differ, particularly in inland communities.
For residents planning outdoor activities, Friday and Saturday offer the warmest conditions, while Sunday through Tuesday bring a cooler stretch with a limited chance of rain toward the end of the period.
