San Francisco, CA – A coastal flood advisory remains in effect across portions of the San Francisco Bay Area and Monterey Bay through Thursday afternoon, October 29, as unusually high tides threaten low lying roads, shoreline infrastructure and coastal properties.
According to the National Weather Service in San Francisco, the advisory remains active until 3 p.m. Thursday, with up to 1.9 feet of inundation above ground level possible in vulnerable shoreline areas and tidal waterways.
The advisory covers shoreline locations along San Pablo Bay, San Francisco Bay and Monterey Bay, including portions of the North Bay, San Francisco Peninsula and surrounding coastal communities.
High tides could create dangerous conditions near the waterfront.
Forecasters warn that rising water levels could flood low lying infrastructure, cause isolated road closures and contribute to coastal erosion.
Higher tides may also push water and waves farther up beaches than normal, restricting access to some shoreline areas and potentially creating hazardous conditions for visitors.
Several elevated high tides are expected through Thursday.
The National Weather Service identifies the following high tide periods at the San Francisco tidal gauge:
Monday, October 26, at 11:39 a.m.: 1.6 feet above normal. Tuesday, October 27, at 12:56 p.m.: 1.9 feet above normal. Thursday, October 29, at 1:43 p.m.: 1.7 feet above normal. These predictions include up to 1 foot of surge, increasing the potential for tidal flooding.
High tide timing may vary by as much as 90 minutes along the Pacific Coast and throughout San Francisco Bay.
Residents traveling through flood prone coastal areas should remain alert for standing water and possible roadway closures.
The National Weather Service advises drivers not to travel around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
Property owners in vulnerable shoreline locations should take precautions to protect flood prone structures and belongings.
The advisory is scheduled to expire Thursday at 3 p.m. PDT unless extended or canceled earlier
