Sacramento, CA – Northern California faces several more days of unusually hot October weather, with a Heat Advisory continuing through Wednesday evening for the Sacramento Valley, Delta and foothills.
According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, the Heat Advisory remains in effect through 10 p.m. Wednesday as temperatures stay well above normal. Highs across the Delta, Valley and foothills are forecast to range from 94 to 102 degrees, while nighttime lows remain in the mid 60s to lower 70s.
The advisory area includes much of the Sacramento and northern San Joaquin valleys, including areas around Redding, Chico, Sacramento, Fairfield, Stockton and Modesto.
The NWS is highlighting a Moderate HeatRisk across portions of the region through Wednesday. At that level, prolonged heat can affect most people without adequate cooling or hydration, with greater concern for people particularly sensitive to high temperatures.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit time in direct sun during the hottest part of the day and spend time in air conditioned or otherwise cool locations. Children, older adults, pets and others particularly vulnerable to heat should also be checked frequently.
Warm overnight temperatures may provide less relief than normally expected during early October, particularly in urban and foothill areas.
Despite the calendar, frost and cooler autumn weather are not the story in this part of California. The immediate concern remains several days of potentially triple digit afternoon heat.
Residents across the Sacramento Valley, Delta and foothills should plan for unusually hot conditions through Wednesday evening and monitor National Weather Service updates for when temperatures will begin easing.
