Los Angeles, CA – Halloween week could bring a change in Southern California's weather, with cooler temperatures and increased precipitation potential raising questions about outdoor celebrations Saturday, Oct. 31. While much of the United States favors unusually warm conditions, parts of California could experience a cooler late October pattern.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center, its 8 14 day outlook issued Saturday, Oct. 17, favors below normal temperatures across portions of California from Sunday, Oct. 25, through Saturday, Oct. 31, while increased precipitation probabilities extend across parts of the western United States.
The outlook suggests Southern California could experience a different weather pattern than the widespread warmth favored across the Midwest, Plains and eastern states.
Will Halloween bring a noticeable cooldown?
For families around Los Angeles, Anaheim, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego, the early outlook suggests cooler than average conditions could develop during Halloween week.
That could mean more comfortable daytime temperatures in some inland communities, although cooler evenings may require jackets or additional layers for children heading outdoors.
Specific Halloween night temperatures are not yet established.
Could rain disrupt trick or treating?
NOAA's precipitation outlook indicates increased potential for wetter than normal conditions across portions of the western United States during Oct. 25 31.
If Pacific storm systems track far enough south, rain could reach Southern California's coastal communities, valleys and inland areas.
However, the outlook does not confirm a storm arriving on Halloween or establish rainfall amounts.
For families planning neighborhood events, costume parties or outdoor celebrations, the timing of any incoming moisture will be especially important.
For now, the clearest signal is the possibility of cooler weather, while rain remains a developing concern rather than a confirmed Halloween threat.
Residents should monitor updated forecasts closer to Oct. 31 for more reliable evening temperatures, rain chances and potential travel impacts.
