Los Angeles, CA – A total of 67 Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters responded to a major emergency on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, after a news helicopter crashed between two commercial buildings. The aircraft was reportedly providing aerial coverage for NBC4 and Telemundo 52, focusing on a separate fatal vehicle collision that had occurred less than a mile away earlier in the day.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department , first arriving units encountered an active fire stemming from the downed aircraft that threatened four nearby vehicles. Firefighters initiated an aggressive fire suppression effort and simultaneously conducted medical triage for victims. While the fire was successfully contained before it could spread to the commercial structures, four automobiles and two storage containers sustained damage.
The incident resulted in four casualties. Three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while a fourth person was transported to a local hospital in an unknown condition. Representatives from the affected news outlets issued a statement expressing deep sadness over the tragic accident.
The crash site remains secured as federal authorities take over the investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board NTSB and the Federal Aviation Administration FAA are leading the inquiry into what caused the flight to go down.
