YAMHILL COUNTY, OR — A deadly ultralight aircraft crash near Chehalem Airpark in Yamhill County has claimed the life of a Washington man, prompting a federal aviation investigation after witnesses reportedly captured the crash on video.
According to the Yamhill County Sheriff 's Office, emergency responders were dispatched to a privately owned field near the airpark after receiving reports that a small ultralight aircraft had crashed. The pilot, identified as 58 year old Trevor Gray Ingram of Vancouver, Washington, was the aircraft's only occupant.
Authorities said Gray Ingram managed to escape the wreckage on his own before emergency crews arrived. Despite extensive lifesaving efforts, he died from his injuries.
Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue, the Dundee Fire Department and the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene. LifeFlight also dispatched a medical helicopter, which landed near the airport to assist with the emergency response.
Investigators confirmed that the ultralight aircraft had departed from Chehalem Airpark and flown around the surrounding area before attempting to land.
The aircraft crashed during that landing attempt, coming down in a privately owned field just outside the airpark's property.
Officials confirmed that the crash was witnessed and recorded on video. The Sheriff's Office reviewed the footage before turning it over to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Representatives from both the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board responded to the scene as authorities began examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
No additional injuries were reported, and officials said the crash did not damage nearby structures.
The cause of the crash has not been publicly established in the information released by the Sheriff's Office.
The Yamhill County Sheriff's Office extended condolences to Gray Ingram's family and friends.
