Wyoming Highway Patrol Names New Colonel Effective Immediately

Cheyenne, WY – The Wyoming Highway Patrol has selected Major KC Ramsey as its next colonel and administrator, marking a leadership change at the statewide law enforcement agency.
According to the Wyoming Department of Transportation, Ramsey will serve as acting administrator and colonel effective immediately, with his appointment scheduled to be completed Oct. 1.
Ramsey brings nearly 27 years of state law enforcement experience to the position. Originally from Wheatland, he earned an administration of justice degree from the University of Wyoming.
His law enforcement career began with a brief stint at the Albany County Sheriff 's Office in 1999 before he moved to the Wyoming Capitol Police, which later became part of the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation.
Ramsey joined the Wyoming Highway Patrol in 2001 and has since served in multiple leadership positions. He held lieutenant positions in the Support Services and Commercial Carrier divisions before being promoted to Commercial Carrier captain in early 2024. Later that year, he became Support Services major.
In that role, Ramsey oversaw operations including the Commercial Carrier Section, Communications Center, Equipment and Technology Program, Training Division, Evidence Team, Special Operations, Executive Protection and Chaplain Program, according to WYDOT.
Ramsey said his priorities as colonel will include employee retention and recruitment, fulfilling statutory responsibilities and maintaining oversight of the patrol's budget.
His selection followed a five month process involving representatives from state and local agencies, the governor's office, Transportation Commission and WYDOT leadership.
Ramsey succeeds Col. Tim Cameron, who retired in March 2026. WYDOT Director Darin Westby served as administrator during the interim.
