Parkersburg, WV – Approximately 6,600 Mon Power customers in Wood and Wirt counties are expected to lose electricity Thursday night, Nov. 5, during a planned eight hour outage that will continue into Friday morning.
According to the Wood County Sheriff 's Office, Mon Power is scheduling the interruption to upgrade its electrical facilities. The outage will affect customers in an area stretching from Mineral Wells toward Palestine and Rockport.
When Will the Power Go Out? The scheduled interruption will begin at 10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 , and continue until 6 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6 .
Mon Power said affected customers should receive automated telephone notifications this week explaining the planned outage.
Which Areas Will Be Affected? The sheriff's office identified approximately 6,600 customers across portions of Wood and Wirt counties.
The affected area extends from Mineral Wells toward Palestine and Rockport. Not every customer in those communities is necessarily included.
Residents should watch for direct notifications from Mon Power to determine whether their service is scheduled for interruption.
Why Is Mon Power Shutting Off Electricity? The utility said the temporary shutdown is necessary to upgrade its facilities.
The work is planned overnight, but customers should prepare for an interruption lasting approximately eight hours.
Residents who depend on electrically powered medical equipment should make arrangements in advance. Households should also charge phones, prepare flashlights and keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed during the outage.
Could the Outage Be Rescheduled? Yes. Mon Power said the work may be postponed if an emergency or inclement weather prevents crews from completing the scheduled upgrades.
