Park Forest, IL – A 39 year old woman was flown to a Chicagoland trauma center for emergency surgery after an alleged stabbing in the Will County portion of Park Forest, while another woman is now in custody.
According to the Park Forest Police Department , officers were summoned to the department’s lobby at approximately 5:16 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026, after the injured woman arrived seeking help.
Police said officers determined she had allegedly been stabbed at an apartment complex on Sycamore Drive. Officers provided medical aid until paramedics arrived and transported her to a local hospital.
Investigators said the incident allegedly stemmed from an ongoing dispute between neighbors.
Officers responded to the apartment complex and immediately took a 34 year old Park Forest woman into custody, according to police. Authorities said a significant police presence remained at the location for several hours while detectives obtained search warrants and processed the scene.
The woman was charged with aggravated battery. Police said additional charges are anticipated after the case is presented to a grand jury.
During her first court appearance, the defendant was ordered to remain in custody while court proceedings continue, according to the department.
Police said the victim’s injuries were severe enough that she was later flown to a Chicagoland trauma center, where she underwent emergency surgery. She was recovering when the department issued its update.
Authorities said there was no ongoing threat to the public because the suspect had been taken into custody shortly after the incident.
No names were released in the department’s statement.
The charge is an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
