Romeoville, IL – Families looking for a free outing in Will County can explore art, storytelling and nature when "The Stick" Traveling Exhibition opens Wednesday at Isle a la Cache Museum in Romeoville.
According to the Forest Preserve District of Will County, the all ages exhibition will run from Wednesday, Sept. 23, through Sunday, Dec. 13. Admission is free, and the exhibit will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.
The traveling exhibition features artwork by South Carolina silhouette artist Clay Rice and was developed by Rice and the South Carolina State Museum.
"The Stick" is based on Rice's children's book of the same name, which follows a young boy whose discovery of a simple stick launches an imaginative adventure.
Visitors will see 16 original hand cut illustrations and learn more about Rice and his work. A quiet reading area will also feature a collection of the artist's books.
Jen Guest, facility supervisor at Isle a la Cache, said the exhibition fits the museum's focus on connecting visitors with nature, history and culture. Organizers hope the combination of art and storytelling encourages families to explore the surrounding preserve and view the natural world in new ways.
Two related WonderKids programs are scheduled for Dec. 3 and Dec. 12. The family oriented programs will feature hands on activities, crafts, singing and storytelling geared toward young children. Registration information will be posted at ReconnectWithNature.org.
The exhibit is sponsored by The Nature Foundation of Will County.
