NEW LENOX, IL – A resident was rescued from a burning home in Will County early Friday morning and later flown to a regional burn center for additional medical treatment after firefighters responded to a structure fire in New Lenox.
According to the New Lenox Fire Protection District, emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 5:32 a.m. Friday to a reported residential fire on Manor Court.
The first fire suppression apparatus arrived within four minutes, and firefighters immediately began extinguishing the flames while searching the residence for anyone still inside.
During the search, crews located an occupant and removed the individual from the burning home.
The patient was initially transported to a local hospital before being flown to a regional burn center for further treatment.
Authorities did not disclose the resident's identity, the extent of their injuries or their current condition.
Fire officials said the blaze was confined to the kitchen area of the residence and was brought under control within 10 minutes of firefighters arriving.
Crews also located the resident's dog inside the home and safely recovered the animal.
The dog was subsequently placed in the care of a local animal shelter, according to the fire district.
No injuries to responding firefighters were reported.
The Mokena and Frankfort Fire Protection Districts provided mutual aid assistance, while the New Lenox Police Department also supported emergency operations at the scene.
The rapid response helped firefighters contain the flames before they spread beyond the kitchen area.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by MABAS Division 19 fire investigators and the Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office.
