Will County, IL – Families and outdoor enthusiasts will have several free ways to explore nature this fall as the Forest Preserve District of Will County rolls out trail walks, an outdoor story experience and LEGO brick activities.
According to the Forest Preserve District of Will County, programs beginning in late October and November will take place at preserves in Custer Township, Shorewood, Channahon and Bolingbrook. All of the listed activities are free and open to all ages.
The final October Trail Club walk is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 8 to 9 a.m. at Sand Ridge Savanna Nature Preserve in Custer Township. Participants will tackle a 2.5 mile loop along the Kankakee Sands Trail.
Trail Club moves to Hammel Woods in Shorewood in November. The first walk is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 1, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Crumby Recreation Area. Additional walks are planned for Nov. 8, 15 and 22. Participants who complete at least four fall Trail Club walks will receive a sticker.
In Channahon, the Four Rivers Environmental Education Center will feature a story trail from Sunday, Nov. 1, through Thursday, Dec. 31. Visitors can follow the accessible 0.4 mile Woodland Loop Trail while reading "Millie Fleur Saves the Night" by Christy Mandin. The experience also explores nighttime nature and ways people can reduce light pollution.
Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Bolingbrook will offer LEGO Brick Nature Creations from Sunday, Nov. 1, through Monday, Nov. 30. Visitors can create nature inspired LEGO builds and share their work at the front desk for a small prize. The activity is available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.
Registration and additional program information are available through the district's Event Calendar at ReconnectWithNature.org.
