Westfield, IN – The Westfield Police Department held two high intensity traffic enforcement operations on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, targeting the southwest portion of the city. The blitzes were initiated in response to ongoing neighborhood traffic complaints and a renewed focus on school zone safety.
According to the department, the operations took place in two distinct time blocks: from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and again from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eight officers, including members of the dedicated Traffic Unit, were deployed to patrol the area. These officers conducted a total of 76 traffic stops throughout the day, which resulted in 50 citations being issued and 37 additional warnings given to motorists for various traffic violations.
The police department noted that these focused efforts are part of a broader strategy to address resident concerns regarding road safety. By concentrating resources in specific neighborhoods, officials aim to curtail risky driving behaviors and protect students in school zones. The department confirmed that this was not a one time event and that similar enforcement blitzes will continue to occur periodically across the city.
Law enforcement officials emphasized that the presence of the Traffic Unit remains a top priority for the department moving forward. The goal is to keep neighborhoods safe through consistent presence and active enforcement of traffic laws. Westfield police also expressed appreciation for community cooperation, encouraging residents to stay alert, reduce their speed, and follow all established rules of the road to ensure the safety of everyone in the area.
