A major federal shake up may threaten special education services across the country. Multiple internal sources say the U.S. Department of Education is currently undergoing significant staff reductions that appear to be disproportionately impacting departments responsible for overseeing disability education programs.
These programs, which provide critical funding and guidance for students with autism, learning disabilities, and other special needs, have reportedly seen critical roles left vacant or eliminated, sparking alarms among stakeholders about the future of support for the nation’s most vulnerable student populations.
