LAKE GENEVA, WI – Families across Walworth County could receive extra holiday support this Christmas as the Lake Geneva Police Department joins a community donation drive seeking gifts, warm clothing and food. Residents have until Thursday, Nov. 19, to contribute.
According to the City of Lake Geneva Police Department , its Community Outreach Committee is partnering with the "Christmas for the Kids" program, organized through Wilderness Episcopal Church in Elkhorn, to help families experiencing financial hardship.
The program has provided holiday gifts for 20 years to families receiving services through the Walworth County Department of Health and Human Services.
Christmas Gifts and Winter Essentials Needed
Organizers are requesting new, unwrapped items, including socks, pajamas, underwear, warm mittens, gloves, winter boots, shoes, bed sheets, board games and books.
Gift cards for gas, groceries and other retailers are also welcome, along with household necessities such as pots, pans, baking supplies, cleaning products and toiletries.
The department is additionally collecting food for holiday meal baskets.
Requested items include canned fruits and vegetables, stuffing, pasta, potatoes, rice, macaroni and cheese, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, pancake mix, syrup, gravy and other nonperishable groceries.
Grocery gift cards are especially helpful for purchasing perishable foods and meat.
Where to Donate Before November 19
Community members can drop off donations in the designated collection bin inside the lobby of the City of Lake Geneva Police Department.
All donated gift and household items must be new and unwrapped.
The department is encouraging residents to participate before the November 19 deadline to help ensure families receive assistance during the upcoming Christmas season.
For two decades, Christmas for the Kids has relied on community generosity to make the holidays brighter for Walworth County families in need.
