Binghamton, NY – Upstate New York is moving deeper into its October frost season, with cool nights ahead as daytime temperatures struggle to get much beyond the 50s and lower 60s.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, cool conditions and a few showers are expected over the next several days. The greatest chance for rain comes Monday afternoon near and north of Interstate 90, where lake effect showers will develop off the eastern Great Lakes.
While October brings an increasing chance for the season’s first frost across upstate New York, the current NWS outlook does not call for a widespread frost or freeze. Forecast lows vary considerably by location, with some colder communities approaching the upper 30s.
Sunday will feature increasing clouds and a chance of showers, with highs generally in the upper 50s to middle 60s.
Monday stays cool and partly sunny. Highs will generally range from the middle 50s to lower 60s, with showers most likely across northern portions of the forecast area.
By early Tuesday, temperatures could fall into the upper 30s in some colder locations. The NWS forecast shows lows around 37 in Bath, 38 in Rome and 39 in Elmira, while Binghamton is forecast around 40.
Dry weather returns across the region Tuesday, with mostly sunny skies. Afternoon temperatures will remain cool, generally reaching the 50s to near 60 degrees.
Residents with frost sensitive vegetation should continue watching overnight forecasts as colder October nights become more common. In the immediate forecast, however, upstate New York can expect a cool Monday with localized lake effect showers followed by widespread dry weather Tuesday.
