Stark County, ND – A 69 year old South Dakota man was killed Friday afternoon after his motorcycle left a highway in western North Dakota and struck a fence near Interstate 94, according to state authorities.
The fatal crash occurred along Old Highway 10 west of South Heart, in Stark County, prompting a response from law enforcement and emergency medical personnel.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash happened Friday, Oct. 9, at approximately 1:22 p.m. Mountain Time near the 12400 block of Old Highway 10.
Motorcycle Leaves Roadway Near I 94 Investigators said the man, a resident of Yankton, South Dakota, was traveling westbound on a 2007 Honda motorcycle when he failed to negotiate a curve.
The motorcycle left the roadway and struck a fence bordering Interstate 94.
Authorities classified the incident as a rollover crash.
The rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision and suffered fatal injuries, according to the Highway Patrol.
Officials reported that road conditions were dry and the weather was clear when the crash occurred.
The victim's name was not included in the initial news release.
Fatal Crash Remains Under Investigation The North Dakota Highway Patrol responded alongside the Stark County Sheriff 's Office and Billings County Emergency Medical Service.
Investigators have not announced whether speed or other contributing factors played a role in the crash.
The incident occurred near the I 94 corridor west of South Heart, a route connecting communities across western North Dakota.
