St. Louis, MO – Near record warmth is expected to return to the St. Louis region Monday, Oct. 12, with afternoon temperatures approaching 90 degrees after a cloudier Saturday and a gradual warming trend Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, temperatures could reach 86 to 94 degrees across its forecast area Monday, with several cities approaching or exceeding daily record highs.
St. Louis has a record high of 89 degrees for Oct. 12, while Columbia's record is 94 degrees and Quincy's is 90 degrees.
Forecasters expect mostly sunny skies Monday, allowing temperatures to climb well above typical mid October levels across eastern Missouri and southwestern Illinois.
Before the warmer weather arrives, Saturday will bring increasing clouds as tropical remnants move through areas to the southeast.
Saturday afternoon temperatures are expected to range from 76 to 86 degrees, with some rain possible across southeastern portions of the forecast area.
The National Weather Service's rainfall probability map shows the greatest chances Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning across southeastern Missouri and southern Illinois.
Areas near Festus and locations farther southeast have a 50% or greater chance of measurable rainfall, defined as at least 0.01 inch.
Rain chances decrease farther northwest, with much of central and northeastern Missouri expected to remain dry.
Sunday will bring clearing skies and mild conditions, with afternoon temperatures ranging from 80 to 91 degrees across the region.
The warming trend continues Monday as sunshine returns and temperatures climb toward daily records.
While the forecast suggests near record warmth, actual records will depend on observed temperatures at individual reporting stations.
