Spokane County, WA – A Washington man is facing multiple driving related charges after allegedly speeding at up to 100 mph, passing an off duty sheriff's deputy in a no passing zone and crashing near Interstate 90 early Saturday, October 10.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff 's Office, the incident began around 12:30 a.m. when an off duty deputy driving south on Barker Road, south of Trent Avenue, noticed an SUV rapidly approaching from behind.
Investigators identified the driver as 44 year old Adam H. Evans.
Authorities said Evans allegedly approached so quickly that the deputy feared being rear ended before the SUV swerved into a turn lane and passed at an estimated 80 to 100 mph.
Moments later, Evans allegedly lost control and crashed off the roadway near an I 90 off ramp.
The deputy, who was driving his personal vehicle, initially remained a witness in accordance with department policy.
However, after the crash, authorities said Evans became increasingly agitated and approached other motorists. Concerned about public safety, the deputy intervened and informed Evans that he was under arrest for reckless driving.
The sheriff's office reported that Evans allegedly resisted detention, prompting the deputy to request emergency assistance.
Additional deputies and Liberty Lake police officers arrived and secured Evans in handcuffs.
During an inspection of the wrecked SUV, deputies discovered a pistol on the driver's floorboard with a loaded magazine nearby. The vehicle's airbags had deployed.
Investigators also learned that Evans allegedly had a suspended driver's license, was required to use an ignition interlock device and had a previous DUI conviction earlier in 2026.
Authorities reported smelling alcohol and suspected possible impairment. Medical personnel administered naloxone over concerns about a potential overdose.
Evans was transported to a hospital for treatment. Investigators later obtained a warrant for a blood sample to undergo testing.
Evans received citations for DUI, operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device and driving while suspended. He was not booked into jail because of his medical condition.
The vehicle was seized as evidence, and the investigation remains active.
All allegations remain subject to the legal process, and Evans is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
